From BEA President Rebecca Haslam
Contract negotiations begin
Our
current teachers’ contract will expire next August, 2009. Our
negotiation team members are: Dan Treinis, Nick Molander,
Terri Lessard, Betsy Patrick, Colleen Cowell and Scott
Hubbard. They are interested in your concerns as they
prepare for upcoming negotiations. Feel free to contact
any of them or the BEA President by phone or email.
I am
looking forward to a successful year of partnerships with our students
and their families, our colleagues, our administrators, and our school
board commissioners. We all share the same goal – to provide the best
possible education to each and every student in our care. Collectively
and cooperatively, we can achieve this shared vision.
The work
we do is so essential to keeping our community strong and vibrant.
Education is the foundation of every community, and the power of every
individual. The BEA is working hard for you because every student
deserves a great public education. We are here to represent your
interests and advocate for you with a strong, collective voice.
I look
forward to working with you to continue to raise the standards for our
students, our profession, and our community.
Thank you,
and have a wonderful year.
Rebecca Haslam

Safe
environment is a priority:
The BEA
continues to advocate for safe working environments for all students,
staff, and visitors who use our buildings, and we are anticipating the
report from this summer’s facilities audit. We hope to work with School
Board Commissioners and administrators to ensure we have 21st
century facilities, including safe and adequate indoor air quality, in
which to implement 21st century teaching and learning. The
future is now, and it depends on our ability to focus on what matters
most – our students.
